Here are some frequently asked questions, but contact us if you can't find the answer you're looking for.

How does frost protection work?

When the boiler senses a temperature drop to below 5 degrees it will fire up and warm itself up, this will continue until the temperature rises. Should there be a disruption to the gas supply the boiler will run the pump only in an effort to stop the water freezing within the boiler.

Are your boilers EST approved?

Our main range of boilers are, please visit the EST website for more information: http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/

What does anti-seizure routine mean?

After a period of 24 hours of inactivity, our boilers energise the pump and motorised diverter within the boiler, to ensure they don't seize. Dirt and debris within heating systems can settle in these areas, so it's important to protect these moving parts.

How many rads can you run off your boiler?

This question arises quite often and is not an easy question to answer. Radiators have outputs ranging from a couple of hundred watts to multiple kilowatts. A boiler with 30kw output to the heating system can supply 30 1kw output radiators. The correct way to solve this question is to calculate the total output for the radiators in the property and then source a boiler of sufficient size to comfortably support the heat output requirements. If you are having a system designed from new then your heating engineer can help source the correct radiators and boiler to ensure the correct comfort levels are achieved in each room of your home.

Should I drain down my boiler while I'm away from home for long periods?

We would not recommend this, leaving a heating system empty for long periods will allow rust within the radiators to build up and cause components within the boiler to seize. You would also then have to refill the system upon return and ensure you have the correct amount of quality inhibitor and protector within the system. Leaving our boilers on standby will allow the boiler to look after the system for you.

Why do some manufacturers use different temperatures when talking about their flow rate?

All boilers are tested at given flow rates, when we say our flow rate is based on 35 degrees celsius rise, we are stating the cold water temperature will be raised by 35 degrees celsius. Others use 25 degrees celsius to try to achieve a better flow rate because the lower temperature of the water allows more water to flow through the heat exchanger. This improves the flow rate on paper but during the winter months when the water coming out of the ground is 2 or 3 degrees celsius your hot water will not be hot enough.

Why does the pump continue after the combi boiler has stopped?

The boiler has a pump overrun facility that ensures any latent heat within the boilers heat exchanger is moved into the heating circuit.

Can your boilers be range rated?

Yes, all Biasi boilers can be range rated on the heating output. On the Inovia and Advance Plus boilers you also have the option in the software to range rate the maximum flow temperature.

Can I use an external programmer with your boilers?

The Inovia and Advance Plus can both use 230 volt and volt free switching external controls. This will facilitate a range of old, right through to the latest RF type external devices. For guidance on the connection of any such device please feel free to contact our service and technical staff on 01922714636.

I live in an off grid property, can your boilers be operated on LPG?

Yes, all Biasi boilers are LPG convertable and all have LPG conversion kits available.

I need to run my pipes behind the boiler, is it possible with your range?

All Biasi boiler ranges have available a rear pipe hiding kit known as a stand off kit or stand off bracket. This accessory allows the pipework to be taken up directly behind the boiler.

I'm looking to use advanced controls and weather compensation on my system, is that possible?

The Advance Plus and Inovia range of combination boilers both have a two stage weather compensation system available and an advanced function modulating room thermostat. First stage is the addition of the outside air temperature sensor which will facilitate basic weather compensation. The second stage is the addition of the Biasi Stat which will then allow full self learning and self compensation weather slope adjustment.

I have low pressure in my area, will your boiler work ok on this?

Yes our boilers can operate on low pressure. Although we would always recommend a primary system pressure of between 1 and 1.5bar when cold, the boiler will operate once the system is above 0.3bar. The domestic hot water will operate as low as 2.5 L/min at 0.3 bar.

Do I need compartment ventilation?

All current Biasi boilers are compartment ventilation free, for older models please refer to either the manufacturers instructions for that boiler or contact the Biasi service and technical office on 01922714636 or service@biasi.uk.com for guidance.

Where can I find the serial number?

On the Riva range of boilers the serial number can be found on the drop down flap. For Inovia and Advance Plus there is a small grey sticker in the front of the boiler. The serial number starts with N and the last four digits represent the month and year the boiler was produced.

How long do Biasi keep spare parts available for their boilers?

The industry standard is 8 years but we still hold spares for 12 years and beyond.

Why do I need to have my boiler serviced to maintain the warranty?

Every boiler manufacturer will insist the boiler is serviced annually in order to maintain your warranty. Just like a car, if you run the boiler when its not been tuned properly you risk putting it under stress. With anything electrical or mechanical, stress will reduce the life of the boiler. Small issues soon become big issues and can often lead to large repair bills, likewise the efficiencies could also be effected meaning you waste energy and money. Most important to Biasi is safety. By having a regular inspection you will have peace of mind knowing your boiler is working safely and efficiently.

My Boiler has a spanner symbol showing, why is that?

The spanner symbol will appear in isolation when your boiler is due for a service. If you have recently had your boiler serviced and the engineer has not reset the spanner please contact our service and technical department who will talk you through what to do next.

My Boiler keeps losing pressure, why is this?

If you are having to top up the pressure on your system on a regular basis, there is something wrong with the system and we would recommend calling a heating engineer to see if they can identify the issue.

What does type 11, 21 and 22 mean?

Type 11 is a single convector and a single panel radiator, type 21 is a single convector in a double panel radiator. Type 22 is 2 convectors in a double panel radiator.

Can I remove the tops and sides for cleaning or replacement?

Yes, it is possible to do this with the radiators in situ, the side panels will push up providing the locking clips are in the correct open position.

What can cause a radiator to leak?

Lack of a quality inhibitor, fresh oxygenated water and electrolyses will all cause radiators to leak. There is no such thing as a bad batch of radiators. If your system is developing leaks there will be a reason and that reason is usually a problem with your heating system. Dirty black water is the first sign, constant topping up of the water within the system is another sign along with over pumping on open systems.

Can you bend Biasi Radiators to fit my window bay?

There are companies who bend radiators but please note if this is done your warranty will no longer be valid.

What is included in the packaging?

Everything that is required for installation, with the exception of the radiator valves can be found within the packaging. Two brackets (3 on rads over 1600 long) Plastic inserts to minimise expansion and contraction noise, an air vent and plug.

What connections are on your radiators?

Each radiator has 4 x 1/2 connection as standard.

Why do chrome towel rails give less heat output than white?

There are two forms of heating, radiation and convection. Chrome has poor radiation properties so you lose the added heat that you would gain from radiation, which is normally 25 - 30% of the output for the same size in white. This is the case for every manufacturer using chrome or powder coated white paint on steel.

Can I run your towel rails as electric only using an electric element?

Yes you can but you need to leave enough space for the expansion of the water.

What does dual fuel mean?

A dual fuel installation is where your towel rail is heated via your normal central heating but also has an electric element, so that during the summer months, when your central heating is off, you can still warm your towels.

Can I run my DHW through the towel rails?

No, they are made of steel and fresh oxygenated water will cause the towel rails to rust through.

What are the pipe centres on a Biasi Towel Rail?

To find the pipe centres you need to take 44mm (22mm per side) off the total width of the towel rail, so a 600mm wide towel rail will have pipe centres of 556mm.

Where should the brackets be fitted?

There is no real hard and fast rule but clearly you want to leave as much space as possible for towels. 10mm from the upright bars and two tubes down/up from the top/bottom looks best.

What is the difference between high efficiency and standard efficiency flue kits?

Standard efficiency boilers waste heat within the exhaust flue gasses whereas high efficiency are lower causing the flue gasses to condense and turn into water. SE flue kits are made of metal to withstand the heat but HE are plastic to withstand the acid water produced when condensing. The water produced by HE boilers will eat through the metal. The heat produced by SE boilers would melt the plastic so its important to get the right boiler accessories for your boiler.

Can I use anyone's flue kits on Biasi Boilers?

No, all flues are tested and certified for each boiler. Using different or even worse mixed flue parts not only puts the customer in danger it would also invalidate your warranty.

Can I use vertical flue kits outside the building?

No with exception of the roof terminal, all flue sections need to be kept within the building.

What is the maximum flue length for your boilers?

All our boilers are different, the less restriction within the boiler the longer the flue can be run. Please refer to the technical pages of your chosen boiler. If you are unsure please send a diagram to our technical department who will be happy to check this over.

Can I still buy standard efficiency flue accessories?

We still keep some flue accessories for replacement market purposes, speak to your local merchant for details.
